In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of 6 months. The song is a blend of reggaeton, pop and rock not only brought renewed attention to reggaeton but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish by 2016 compared to two in the year 2015. The Despacito album reached its peak chart-topping success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. This number rose to 41 in 2020. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Then, various artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars like Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019. By 2020 a few reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at the genre's direction toward the mainstream, but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, aimed to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other genres.
