Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder was born on Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her the city she grew up in after her birthplace. Michel Horowitz' father was editor and author and editor, as was Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder is Jewish. Ryder believes that her father came from a Jewish family. The actress has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Her younger brother is Uria. Ryder moved with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. There was no electricity. The books on television were Ryder's only distraction to pass the time. Eventually, she began to read extensively. Ryder started to take acting classes at American Conservatory Theatre when she turned 12 years old. When she was 15, Ryder landed her first part onscreen, playing Lucas. Ryder faced bullying in high school. Ryder believed that if she became an actor, her bullying was going to be corrected. Unfortunately, that did not happen. But that didn't stop her pursuing dreams. Her breakthrough was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was able to continue playing roles that were successful in various films. Ryder was nominated twice for Academy Awards one for her role as a character in The Age of Innocence (1993).
